The challenge of fresh and frozen delivery
In recent years, Jumbo has built a comprehensive logistics operation to support its growing e-commerce activities. A key challenge has been the safe and efficient delivery of fresh and frozen products — where food safety risks, freeze/thaw damage, and extended delivery times are common issues.
There was also a strong desire to eliminate the use of dry ice due to high costs, supply constraints, and employee safety concerns.
Finding the right solution with VebaBox
To tackle these challenges, Jumbo partnered with VebaBox to explore both active and passive cooling solutions. After evaluating several options, the company opted for a passive cooling system, citing its effectiveness, simplicity, and operational advantages.
VebaBox played a key role — not only in developing the new passive box, but also in supporting the full implementation process.

Impressive results across the board
The results are clear: nearly all of Jumbo’s e-fulfillment centers have now adopted the new passive cooling system. To date, more than 100,000 boxes and 120,000 cooling and freezing lids have been delivered.
The goals set at the start of the project — both in terms of quality and business performance — have been fully achieved and even exceeded.
